How to Prevent Motion Sickness in the Car

One of the worst parts of being susceptible to motion sickness is having to spend extended periods of time in the car. While there are many over-the-counter remedies for helping to curb motion sickness, there are also plenty of other ways you can help prevent it. Here are a few tips to help you as you strive to avoid motion sickness in the car.

  1. Be careful what you eat or drink before travelling. Stay away from foods that tend to make you feel ill or overly full.
  2. Ride in the front passenger seat of the car.
  3. Avoid reading or using devices when the vehicle is moving.
  4. Fix your eyes on the horizon or some other point outside the car.
  5. Open a vent or some other source of fresh air.
  6. Talk yourself down and convince yourself you won’t get carsick. The mind is a powerful thing and this may actually help you avoid motion sickness.
  7. Find your pressure points, such as your wrists, and apply pressure.
