The Supra was a staple in the Toyota lineup<\/a> from 1978 until 2002, attracting drivers who desired a stylish, performance-tuned fastback coupe without giving an arm and a leg. Recently, the automotive industry has been buzzing about the potential return of the legendary Toyota Supra. Is it really true? Is the Toyota Supra making a comeback?<\/p>\n

History of the Toyota Supra<\/h3>\n

Derived from the iconic Toyota Celica, the Supra took over in mid-1986 to provide a longer, wider, and sportier version. The Supra had its own special logo, which consisted of blue or orange coloring, depending on the generation. Generations of the Toyota Supra included A40, A60, A70, and A80. The well-known model can be seen in numerous TV shows and movies, including The Fast and the Furious film series.<\/p>\n

Rumors of the Toyota Supra’s Return<\/h3>\n

Fast-forward to today. A new version of the Toyota Supra, or at least something very similar, is currently in the works, in conjunction with BMW. Unfortunately, the new Supra is not production-ready, so we may have to wait a little while to get a glimpse. In the meantime, we have some details about what to expect from the return of the Supra.<\/p>\n

First and foremost, the Toyota-BMW collaboration is focusing primarily on developing new engines and lithium-ion batteries as well as a new rear-wheel drive platform. In addition to the Supra comeback, another result of this collaboration is the BMW Z4 roadster, which made its debut this past summer. The Toyota Supra will likely be equipped with a 6-cylinder engine, perhaps paired with an electric motor. We could even see an all-wheel drive hybrid powertrain.<\/p>\n
