Using the windshield wiper knob in the Highlander

As it turns out, the answer is pretty simple. You’re probably already familiar with the windshield wiper knob on the right side of your steering wheel which has several functions, including:

  • Pulling the knob down: turns the front wipers on, pull down again (and again) to increase wiper speed
  • Pulling up once on the knob: activates the wipers for one wipe
  • Pulling the knob toward you: sprays wiper fluid on the front windshield and wipes it away
  • Rotating the dial in the middle of the knob: adjusts the wiper speed to faster (toward you) or slower (away from you) intervals

But what about controlling the Toyota Highlander’s rear wipers?

Now, for the answer: At the end of the windshield wiper knob (on the right), you’ll find the control for the rear wiper. If you rotate it away from you, the rear wiper will turn on. One click turns the rear wipers on intermittent operation (INT), and two clicks turns the wipers on normal operation (ON).
