First Look at the Toyota FT-4X Concept

Millennial-age professionals know the problem all too well…that “urge” to jump in your vehicle, hit the open road, and just get away from it all. Oftentimes these urges hit out of nowhere, prompting an unplanned adventure that may only last a day. For these spontaneous trips, Toyota has created the new Toyota FT-4X, a concept that Toyota says will be the seamless conduit of casual outings by anyone, anytime. Take a first look at the Toyota FT-4X Concept below!

Toyota’s FT-4X Concept aims to attract young urbanite professionals who are making a shift from multiday, extreme, high-effort excursions to brief, unplanned, casual adventures. These “Casualcore outings”, as Toyota is calling them, begin as an idea created in the confinements of the office and end with dinner on the beach or settling next to a campfire in the woods. Because of this, Toyota started its FT-4X design from the rear, understanding that memories are made on the tailgate, and its rear hatch is one of the most attractive parts of the whole vehicle. Called Multi-Hatch, the rear opens two ways: horizontally in Urban Mode, and vertically in Outdoor Mode. Urban Mode splits the hatch in half and makes for easier curbside gear loading while Outdoor Mode opens the one-piece hatch upward, creating a shelter from the elements in times of emergency.

Under the hood you will find a punchy, low-displacement engine that maintains exceptional usability and efficiency no matter if you have the FT-4X in the city or in the country. In addition to the engine, mechanical four-wheel drive and selectable low-range further accentuate the FT-4X’s always-ready character. A sophisticated MacPherson strut front suspension absorbs rocks and potholes while its larger wheelbase enables it to cover more ground.
