V2V Technology – Explained

Recently, Toyota announced plans to add V2V technology to models in the U.S. beginning in 2021. This technology would essentially make it possible for vehicles to communicate with one another via radio signals. The communicated information may include speed, acceleration, braking, and direction, allowing cars to sense one another even if views are obstructed, such as by corners or other vehicles. In turn, this technology could greatly reduce collisions and injuries on the road.

Plans for vehicle-to-vehicle technology

In addition to helping vehicles communicate with one another, V2V technology may be able to work in connection with sensors in self-driving cars to provide a layer of redundancy. You can never be too safe on the road! This technology may also be used to expand Wi-Fi connection.

V2V technology has already been in testing and has proven very useful for a variety of purposes. In fact, a few years ago, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reportedly issued an initial notice for automakers to begin working on V2V technology for new cars.
