In addition to all-wheel drive, the 2018 Highlander offers some impressive engine options. The standard 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine is capable of producing 185 horsepower and achieving EPA-estimated 24 mpg on the highway. The available 3.5-liter V6 packs a punch with 295 horsepower while still offering up to 27 highway mpg (26 for AWD models). For a bump in efficiency, especially when it comes to city driving, the Highlander’s hybrid powertrain combines V6 power (306 net horsepower) with innovative hybrid technology to achieve EPA-estimated 29 city mpg.
